Kenan Hasanzade, the winner of the "Asia Grand Prix 2026" international backgammon tournament in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, plans to test himself in a more competitive environment.
A member of the Azerbaijan National Sports Association stated this in an interview with "Report".
He shared his thoughts on the competition, which was attended by nearly 700 athletes from more than 55 countries:
"I took first place among 256 participants in the "Backgammon" (Blitz) category. "Backgammon Blitz" is a fast and dynamic version of "backgammon". Although it is based on the rules of the classic game, it is designed to be played in a shorter time. In this format, players have to make decisions in less time, which highlights both strategic thinking and reflexes. The most interesting thing is that the speed factor adds extra tension and excitement to the game. The value of each move increases, and mistakes become more visible. It is both educational for beginners and a real testing ground for experienced players."
K.Hasanzade emphasized that he wants to further improve his existing skills, strengthen rapid decision-making and strategic thinking in the first place:
"In addition, I plan to participate in international tournaments and test myself in a more competitive environment. Creating a national team and participating in the World Championship in England is one of the biggest goals for me. This is a unique opportunity both to represent our country in the international arena and to show the world the skills of our athletes. Such a goal creates both responsibility and motivation. My main goal on this path is not only to participate, but also to achieve worthy results and raise the name of Azerbaijan. Support is essential to realize such great goals. Creating a national team and participating in the World Championship is not only possible with individual initiative. This requires finance, infrastructure, coaches and coordination of the federation. The support provided by the state both strengthens the preparation of athletes and increases the country's reputation in the international arena."
