Jim Ratcliffe, co-founder of Manchester United and head of the multinational company INEOS, explained his comments regarding the economic situation of Great Britain.
"You cannot have an economy where nine million people are on benefits and a large number of immigrants," - Idman.Biz quotes Ratcliffe.
"I deeply regret that my comments have offended some people in the UK and Europe and caused concern. However, it is important to raise the issue of controlled and well-managed immigration that supports economic growth.
My comments were made during a Q&A session on British policy at the European Industrial Summit in Antwerp. There I discussed the importance of economic growth, jobs, skills and production in the UK.
My intention was to highlight that governments must manage migration alongside investments in skills, industry and jobs to ensure long-term prosperity is accessible to all. It is important that we have an open discussion about the challenges facing the UK," Ratcliffe told the INEOS press service.
