Italian skier Matteo Franzoso, 26, has died after being injured in a fall during training.
Lent.az reports that the incident happened on Saturday during training on the La Parva slope in Chile.
Franzoso made an unsuccessful jump on the first springboard. He broke through two rows of safety nets and crashed into a barrier 6-7 meters away from the track. The athlete was rushed by helicopter to the nearest hospital, placed in intensive care, put into an induced coma and intubated. However, Franzoso's body could not cope with the head trauma and the resulting cerebral edema. He died on September 15.
Matteo Franzoso participated in 17 World Cup stages. His best result in the overall ranking was 154th place in 2025. He would have turned 26 on September 16.
