Italian figure skating champion Giulia Maria Ghizzetti has tragically died at the age of 23.
İdman.biz reports that the athlete was hit by a truck turning at an intersection while riding her bicycle in a designated lane.
Rescuers arrived at the scene immediately, but could not save the athlete. She died at the scene. The truck driver, a 46-year-old man, underwent an alcohol test and the result was negative.
Ghizzetti was born in Bressanone (South Tyrol, Italy), but had lived in Austria in recent years and trained in Salzburg. Austrian officials are investigating the circumstances of the tragedy.
