Indian chess player Dommaraju Gukesh has been awarded the "Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna," the country's highest sports award.
"Report" informs that the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, announced this via social media.
The awarding ceremony took place at the President's official residence in New Delhi.
It should be noted that the 18-year-old grandmaster defeated China's Ding Liren in a match for the chess crown on December 12 last year. He became the 18th world chess champion and the youngest winner in history.
