A cycling tour dedicated to May 28 – Independence Day was held within the framework of the "Year of Constitution and Sovereignty" with the joint organization of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation and the "Regional Development" Public Association.
Idman.biz reports that more than 300 cyclists and paracyclists participated in the event.
They started from Velopark accompanied by the "Victory Road" motorcyclists group carrying the tricolor flags of the Republic of Azerbaijan and moved along the route Bibiheybat Mosque – Water Sports Palace – National Flag Square. At the end of the event, certificates were presented to active participants of the cycling tour.
Sahib Alakbarov, 1st Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation, said in an interview with media representatives that the main goal of the federation is to support the development of cycling as a sport, as well as its widespread use as a means of transportation. According to Sahib Alakbarov, all the necessary infrastructure is available in our country for this, and such events make a great contribution to promotional work among the population.
The 1st Vice-President of the Federation also added that the newly elected leadership of the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation is currently negotiating to restore the "Tour d"Azerbaidjan" competition, which has gained great recognition in the world of cycling, in the calendar of the International Cycling Union (UCI).
