16-year-old goalkeeper Edson Lopez Gama, who played for an amateur team in the Brazilian state of Amazonas, died after stopping a penalty with his chest during training.
Lent.az reports, citing foreign media, that the ball hit the area between the footballer's sternum and diaphragm. As a result, the goalkeeper collapsed to the ground in severe pain. An ambulance was called and the footballer was taken to the hospital. However, doctors were unable to help Gama.
The incident occurred on January 5. It is noted that the 16-year-old goalkeeper never had heart problems.
