Former German clubs defender Sebastian Hertner died in a skiing accident at the age of 34.
Idman.Biz reports that the press service of the "Stuttgart" club announced this on social media.
"Stuttgart mourns the death of Sebastian Hertner, a former youth team player who tragically passed away in an accident at the age of 34. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends," the club said in a statement.
According to RMC Sport, the incident occurred on Saturday, December 20, at the Savin Kuk ski resort in Montenegro, where Hertner was vacationing with his wife. According to initial reports, one of the two-seater chairs on the chairlift detached from its cable, slid back, and collided with the chair behind it, resulting in the player falling from a height of 70 meters. He died at the scene. His wife was trapped in the ski lift and was later rescued by emergency services. She suffered a broken leg.
Sebastian Hertner was a graduate of Stuttgart's youth system. He also played for Erzgebirge, Darmstadt and 1860 Munich in the second division.
