Former President of the Croatian Ski Federation (HSS), Vedran Pavlek, was arrested in Istanbul while trying to escape his country's authorities.
According to Idman.Biz, Pavlek is accused of embezzling approximately 30 million euros intended for the federation, bribing witnesses, and committing repeated offenses.
The suspect did not attend the court hearing in Zagreb where a temporary detention order was to be issued. Vedran was detained in Turkey by Croatian law enforcement agencies. Four of his former colleagues were previously under investigation.
The media reports that Vedran Pavlek transferred approximately 10 million euros to personal foreign accounts and conducted fraudulent transactions with companies in Switzerland, Monaco, and Liechtenstein. He unexpectedly resigned from his post last month.
