Federation Head: "Organizing a UFC competition in Baku is a significant achievement"

Holding the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) tournament in Baku is a great success.

Azad Asgarov, President of the Azerbaijan MMA and Grappling Federation, said this in an interview with "Report".

He shared his thoughts on the "UFC Fight Night" to be held on June 21 at the Baku Crystal Hall:

"Our state always supports sports. Previously, the European Games, the Islamic Solidarity Games and other prestigious competitions were held in our country. UFC is also one of the world's largest organizations. It is also a tournament that is the focus of the whole world. Tourists from different places will come to Azerbaijan, our country and city will be recognized."

The head of the federation said that this will also be a good experience for young athletes:

"The performance of famous UFC fighters in Baku will give them extra incentive and confidence. Strong and good athletes will come to Azerbaijan. There is also great interest in MMA in our country. There are more than 100 teachers in our federation. This means that several thousand young people are engaged in this sport. I myself have participated in fights many times in my youth. The holding of the UFC tournament in Baku also arouses my interest."

He said that the UFC tournament could be held in Azerbaijan in the coming years as well:

"After the European Games, prestigious competitions have been organized in our country many times. This year the CIS Games will take place. The main thing is to organize the first competition. I believe that there will be a continuation. Currently, sports are constantly developing in our country. Who would have thought that a UFC tournament would be held in Azerbaijan before? The difficult part is the beginning."
