"It is now the fifth year since our lands were liberated by our glorious army under the leadership of the head of state. Since 2022, in accordance with the instructions of the head of state, we have been holding various sports competitions in Karabakh."
Idman.biz reports that this was stated by the Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov.
He answered journalists' questions after the opening ceremony of the "President's Cup-2025" rowing regatta dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev in Sugovushan. Gayibov said that the level of the competition is increasing year by year: "The regatta has been organized since our lands were liberated. It's been five years now. If four countries participated in the first competition, now more than twenty countries have joined the tournament. This event has already been included in the international calendar. Interest in this competition is growing every year. Taking this opportunity, I thank all the organizers. Together with the federations, we will continue to hold both local and international competitions."
It should be noted that more than 200 athletes from more than 20 countries are participating in the "President's Cup-2025" international regatta. The competition, which started today in Sugovushan, will continue on May 1-2 at the Mingachevir "Kur" Olympic Training and Sports Center. Here, teams will test their strength at various distances in kayak, canoe and academic rowing.
On May 2, the closing ceremony of the regatta will be held in front of the Mingachevir "Kur" Olympic Training and Sports Center. At the closing ceremony, the winners will be awarded first. Kayak-canoe and academic rowing cups will be presented to their owners. The regatta will end with fireworks, as always.
The "President's Cup" regatta has been included in the official calendar plan of the European Canoe Association (ECA) for the third year in a row.
