At the opening of the "Sports Capital", we saw many young athletes, both girls and boys, from Gabala. This is the result of the work done by various sports organizations. We have achieved these results together. I believe that these children will adequately represent our country in the international arena."
Sport24.az reports that these words were said by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Farid Gayibov, in a statement to journalists after the opening ceremony of "Gabala - Sports Capital 2025".
The Minister said that last year Guba was chosen as the "Sports Capital" of Azerbaijan and successful results were achieved:
"Guba coped with this task properly. Various local and international sports events were held here. As a result, more people in this region started to play sports. I think that this year it will be the same in Gabala. Federations are planning to hold competitions here. The most important event for the country's sport this year is the organization of the CIS Games. Gabala is also a part of these Games. I believe that by the end of the year we will witness more people being involved in sports in Gabala."
He also noted that preparations for the CIS Games are going well: "Meetings of the CIS Organizing Committee are already being held. Relevant work is underway. I would also like to note that in addition to the CIS countries, guests from other countries will also attend the event."
It should be noted that the city of Gabala was selected as the "Sports Capital" of Azerbaijan for 2025 as a result of a vote held at the meeting of the Collegium of the Ministry of Youth and Sports on December 7, 2023.
