John Coates, President of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), has resigned after 15 years due to ongoing cancer treatment.
İdman.biz reports that the CAS press service has announced this.
"Mr Coates stated that after completing a six-month course of chemotherapy for cancer, his health prevents him from undertaking international travel. He emphasizes that now is the most appropriate time for him to leave the organization and thanks his colleagues and the staff of the CAS Registry," - the official CAS website quotes Coates.
Michael Lenard has been appointed as the acting President of CAS. The official elections for the new CAS President are initially scheduled for May 2027.
