The recent interview of Babek Aliyev, the vice-president of the Azerbaijan Kung Fu Federation, has caused a scandal.
Idman.Biz reports that Babek Aliyev stated that he once defeated an Italian opponent in one of the tournaments. According to him, that athlete had previously defeated Canpolad Budagov, the only world champion in the history of Azerbaijani wushu.
The reaction of the famous athlete to this issue was not delayed.
In his statement to Idman.Biz, Canpolad Budagov strongly denied the words of the representative of the Azerbaijan Kung Fu Federation, calling them fabricated and questioning the status of the competitions he participated in.
"First of all, let me say that I have never lost to any Italian and I don't understand why Babek Aliyev is spreading such lies. I don't know him as an athlete at all, and I only saw him once - last year when their federation invited me to present an honorary decree.
Our Kung Fu representatives have never participated in the world championships we have attended. Our team only performed once - in 2001 - at the annual tournament held in Perugia, which they called the "world championship". The level of the competition was so weak that neither I nor other serious wushu athletes went there again," Canpolad Budagov concluded.
