The Canary Islands will refuse to host stages of the 2026 "Vuelta a Espana" cycling race if the Israeli team "Israel-Premier Tech" participates in the competition.
This was stated by the president of the "Gran Canaria" Community, Antonio Morales.
"I must say with absolute certainty that if Israel is a participant, the stages will not take place. The Canary Community is not prepared to condone genocide, neither in sport nor in any other way. So, we will see what happens in the coming months, but if Israel participates, the Canary Islands will not host the Vuelta," said Morales.
Earlier, during the 2025 "Vuelta" cycling race, several stages of the race were disrupted due to protests against Israel, which led to the early end of the races. The Israeli team "Israel-Premier Tech" shortened its name to IPT, and the country's name was also removed from the athletes' uniforms.
