"Barcelona"'s reserve goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny started in the first semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup against "Athletic".
Lent.az reports with reference to foreign media that the Pole replaced number one Iñaki Peña, who was punished for being late to training.
It is reported that the decision to replace the main goalkeeper with a reserve player was made by the head coach of the Catalan team, Hans-Dieter Flick.
The German specialist also punished "Barcelona"'s number one player, Iñaki Peña, in the same way for being late for the team's morning training session.
During a face-to-face conversation with the coach, the 25-year-old goalkeeper stated that he had made a mistake in the schedule and overslept. But these arguments played no role, and the strict Flick did not include the Spanish goalkeeper in "Barcelona"'s starting lineup against "Athletic".
Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny, who replaced Peña, played well and did not concede a goal in the second game.
He had previously not allowed a goal in his debut in the Spanish Cup against "Barbastro" (4:0).
