The medalists of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games have begun returning the medals they won.
More than 100 medals have already been sent to the Organizing Committee of the tournament. This is due to the loss of quality of the medals.
Lent.az reports that the problem has not bypassed Azerbaijani athletes either.
Thus, Gashim Magomedov, a silver medalist in taekwondo at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games, faced the same problem.
He stated that his medal had lost its quality: "From the moment I won the medal, I treated it very carefully. During this time, I kept it in a special bag. I kept it in the bag for about two months. I looked at it from time to time, sometimes I admired it. A few days ago, when I came to Azerbaijan for a training camp, I thought I'd take it with me just in case. I decided to take it with me in case it was needed at some event of the Ministry of Youth and Sports or the Taekwondo Federation, and when I took it out of the bag, I saw that it was a little spoiled. I can't understand why? I have always been careful with my medal. But like many athletes, I faced poor quality."
We contacted the National Olympic Committee regarding the issue.
The organization told our website that the International Olympic Committee will be contacted regarding the incident./Apasport.az
