Faiq Hasanov, vice-president of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation and international referee, has been included in the Guinness Book of Records.
"Report" informs that this was announced at the event held on the occasion of the specialist's 85th anniversary.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, FIDE Vice-President Mahir Mammadov, former head of the International Chess Federation Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, President of the Georgian Chess Federation Akaki Iashvili, five-time world champion, legend of women's chess Nona Gaprindashvili, member of the national team Shahriyar Mammadyarov and others.
At the ceremony, it was announced that the jubilee's name was included in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest-serving referee. Speaking at the event, Guinness World Records official Sheyda Subashi said that the submitted data was checked and fully complied with the required conditions.
Thus, Faiq Hasanov has been officially confirmed as the longest-serving male chess referee. He entered the world-famous Guinness Book of Records by refereeing in various chess competitions for 60 years and 149 days. In this regard, a Guinness World Records official presented a certificate to the person concerned.
It should be noted that the participants of the event also congratulated Shahriyar Mammadyarov, a three-time European champion and world rapid champion, who turned 40 these days.
