Azerbaijan to be Represented in the Governing Body of the Badminton World Federation

The 86th Annual General Meeting of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) was held in Xiamen, China.

İdman.biz reports that the delegation of the Azerbaijan Badminton Federation was also invited to the meeting, which was attended by delegations from 143 countries.

Reports of marketing, communication, finance and other committees were heard at the annual meeting. It was noted in the speeches that badminton continues to be successful in the world. In 2025, the fan base of this sport in the world will be 744 million people. 400 million people are actively involved in badminton and it is currently the most popular sport played with rackets in the world. In addition to being followed by 17 million people on social media, BWF is one of the 10 most followed federations along with FIFA and FIBA.

Elections for the BWF president and the Council, which is the highest governing body, as well as the Executive Committee, were held at the event for 2025-2029. The President of the Azerbaijan Badminton Federation, Taleh Ziyadov, was elected a member of the Council from the European continent for a term of 4 years.

According to the current rules of the BWF, the 20 newly elected Council members will determine the organization's development strategy, committee heads, internal and external statutes.

The President of the Badminton Federation of Thailand, Khunying Patama Leesvadtrakul, was elected President of the World Badminton Federation.

In recent years, the Azerbaijan Badminton Federation has managed to rise from 85th to 46th place in the world ranking and continuously hosts various levels of international badminton tournaments.

It should be noted that the congress of the European Badminton Confederation (BEC) was held in Baku in 2023. As part of its social responsibility, the Azerbaijan Badminton Federation, based on the agreement signed with the BWF in 2023, provided the badminton organizations of Botswana, Djibouti, Cameroon, Gambia and Madagascar with rackets, shuttlecocks and other necessary sports equipment in order to support the development and mass participation of badminton in African countries.
