A terrible avalanche occurred at the "Vesses" pass, located in the "Val Veni" valley in the Italian resort of Courmayeur. As a result of the incident, three experienced French athletes involved in freeride (skiing in off-road areas) died.
Idman.Biz, referring to "The Independent," reports that the victims of the natural disaster are 31-year-old Hugo Noville, 35-year-old Quentin Philippe, and 29-year-old Alexis Rassat from Chamonix. The latter athlete was taken to a Turin hospital in serious condition after being under the snow for 40 minutes, but doctors could not save his life.
Despite the extreme weather conditions, rescuers tried for hours to extract people who were trapped under the snow.
