The Supreme Court has reviewed the cassation appeal in the criminal case involving Orkhan Safarov, who claimed to have won the title of world champion.
İdman.Biz reports with reference to pravda.az that the court hearing on the cassation appeal against the decision on 20 people accused of illegal drug trafficking, smuggling and legalization of funds obtained by criminal means has ended.
The final decision was announced at the trial chaired by Judge Rashad Abdulov. According to the decision, the cassation appeal was not granted.
Orkhan Safarov, one of the defendants, testified in court that he had been involved in sports since 2008, won the title of world champion that year, and then continued his training at the Dinamo Sports Center.
It should be noted that the defendants were detained in 2021 as a result of a special operation. The court investigation into the large-scale criminal case lasted for a long time.
It is recalled that by the verdict of the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, only 3 of the 20 defendants were sentenced to penalties not related to imprisonment, and they were released from the courtroom. The other 17 people were sentenced to imprisonment for up to 9 years.
According to the indictment, Fargana Naghiyeva led the collection of funds from the sale of drugs in the country and their delivery to the indicated addresses. It was reported that her husband, Adam Naghiyev, and 18 other members of the group opened about 2,000 bank card accounts in the names of various people used in drug sales in the country.
