AMADA at the "Bringing together European NADOs to strengthen national systems" conference in Norway

The Executive Director of the Azerbaijan National Anti-Doping Agency (AMADA), Tahmina Taghi-zade, Deputy Executive Director Rufat Efendiyev, and Head of the Results Processing and Investigation Department Nijat Amiraslanli actively participated in the high-level conference "Bringing together European NADOs to strengthen national systems" held in Bergen, Norway.

Idman.biz reports that high-ranking officials from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), representatives from over 40 national anti-doping organizations, international experts, and government officials attended the event, which was co-organized by the Council of Europe and the Norwegian Anti-Doping Agency.

Key speakers at the conference included Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe Bjørn Berge, WADA President Witold Banka, Head of the Anti-Doping Division of the Council of Europe Jamie Brown, Chairman of the Board of the Norwegian Anti-Doping Agency Rune Andersen, and State Secretary of the Norwegian Ministry of Culture and Equality Erlend Hanstveit. The presence of these officials further emphasized the political and institutional significance of the event. The conference discussed the main challenges and strategic priorities facing the anti-doping field in the continent.

Three main topics were identified to guide discussions within the framework of the event. The first topic covered opportunities and challenges for cooperation with European and international sports organizations. This highlighted the relationships of national anti-doping organizations with international federations, cooperation with the International Testing Agency, and contributions to doping control at international sports events.

The second topic was dedicated to establishing correct relations with states. During the session "Balancing the operational independence of national anti-doping organizations and accountability to the state," moderated by Tahmina Taghi-zade, participants shared their experiences in maintaining the operational independence of anti-doping agencies while ensuring transparency and accountability as state-funded entities. The session also discussed accepted standards for transparency, guarantees for institutional operational independence, and the promotion of governance frameworks based on trust with the shared responsibility of European anti-doping organizations.

Other parallel sessions on the same topic reviewed the formation of legal and financial frameworks for the activities of anti-doping organizations, as well as opportunities for cooperation with national law enforcement agencies, customs, and other government bodies.

The final topic of the conference was a high-level panel discussion dedicated to strengthening cooperation with WADA. Topics such as aligning anti-doping activities conducted at the national level with global standards, clarifying mutual obligations, and strengthening dialogue were discussed. The event concluded with the presentation of final results and recommendations from the sessions.

AMADA reaffirms its commitment to clean sport and expresses its gratitude for the organization of the conference. Such a high-level and inclusive platform made a significant contribution to the development of strategic dialogue, the improvement of governance, and effective cooperation among the European anti-doping community.
