Idman.Biz reports that 17-year-old Ben Austin has died from his injuries.
The incident occurred in Melbourne.
The ball hit the young athlete in the throat area. He was immediately hospitalized and placed on a ventilator, but despite the doctors' efforts, he died the next day.
It is noted that although Austin wore a special protective helmet during training, it did not completely cover the throat area. However, such protective equipment has been mandatory in Australian cricket since 2023.
