The Finance Department of the World Athletics Association has discovered that more than 1.5 million euros in total have been embezzled by several employees of the organization.
Idman.Biz reports that the organization's president, Sebastian Coe, stated this in a statement referring to the Association's website:
"Unfortunately, corporate thefts occur in all regions of the world and in various fields. The most important thing is to detect these cases in a timely manner, analyze how they occurred, and implement new mechanisms to prevent them from recurring in the future. This is exactly what we did."
The incident was discovered during the first annual audit conducted under the new financial management. No other violations were found in a subsequent independent audit.
It is noted that all documents related to the matter have been prepared and submitted to the court and law enforcement agencies. A criminal case is expected to be opened regarding the fact.
