The organizers of the Universiade, which will be held in Chungcheong, South Korea in 2027, promise innovative games.
An Idman.biz correspondent who was dispatched to Germany reports that during the presentation of the Universiade-2027, it was announced that modern technologies such as artificial intelligence, 5G broadcasting, and advanced transportation management systems will be used in the competitions.
Thanks to these systems, spectators will be more easily directed to the stadiums. The Organizing Committee is trying to harmoniously combine tradition and innovation in this way.
Ecological sustainability is also one of the main pillars of the games' concept. The organizers stated that they will prefer to use existing infrastructure instead of new constructions (currently, only two new stadiums are being built for tennis and gymnastics). At the same time, the sustainable development of the games will be ensured through ecological accommodation, waste minimization, and the use of clean food products.
Kan Chan-hee, President of the Organizing Committee, presented plans for holding a multiformat event in the Chungcheong region.
In accordance with the concept of decentralization, neighboring cities – Daejeon, Sejong, Chungbuk, and Chungnam – will unite and host the games in a single space under the name "Chungcheong Metropolis."
The organizers stated that through the games they will present the world with a "new wave of Korean culture" that combines tradition and sports. The opening and closing ceremonies will reflect both traditional Korean culture, which is loved around the world, and regional characteristics.
Lee Chan-seob, Vice President of the Organizing Committee, says: "Chungcheong is the center of the Korean peninsula, so we have both Korean and local culture. For example, we have our own dialect, and our culture is somewhat different from other regions of the country."
He also spoke about the selection of three additional sports to be included in the program of the 2027 Universiade: "As for beach volleyball, Boryeong, one of the cities where our games will be held, hosts a famous mud festival. We want to combine this festival with the Universiade to create a more festive atmosphere.
We already have an excellent rowing base and plan to use it. Golf is popular among both young and old. In addition, our players are very strong in this sport and we believe they will win a gold medal."
