Xavi has spoken out about being appointed as the new coach of the Netherlands national team.
Sport.Biz reports that Xavi has signed a 4-year contract.
"I consider it a great honor to be the coach of the Netherlands national team. As someone who has come from the Barcelona academy, under the strong influence of Johan Cruyff and Rinus Michels, I feel a special connection to Dutch football. You could say that I am a child of Dutch football in a way.
Other great coaches, especially Louis van Gaal and Frank Rijkaard, who I made my debut with at Barcelona, have also played a significant role in my development as a player and coach.
The Netherlands have a rich football culture and a clear vision that really appeals to me: attacking, creative, passionate, and possession-based football. Of course, winning is the most important thing, but I prefer to do it in a way that showcases these qualities and brings joy to people. There is potential for this, and a solid foundation for development.
I look forward to taking on this challenge together with the players, staff, and everyone at the Royal Dutch Football Association", Xavi said.
