Former Barcelona head coach Xavi has stated that at one point he failed to maintain the high standards he set at "blaugrana".
Idman.Biz reports that the 45-year-old specialist coached Barcelona from 2021 to 2024. Under his leadership, the team won the Spanish League and the Super Cup.
"I started my coaching career at Barca by setting high standards for the players and the club. The club was going through a period when there were not many demands. But my mistake was to maintain these high standards for only one year - from the moment I arrived until I won La Liga and the Super Cup (in the 2022/2023 season).
After a while, I was critical of myself and said, "Damn it, what happened to me?" I lowered these high standards, and the players no longer showed the same attitude, the same respect, the same effort. The standards dropped so much that we couldn't win anything in my last season. I learned a lot from this. You need to be self-critical," Mundo Deportivo quotes Xavi as saying.
