Vusal Iskandarli, who currently plays for Albanian club "Partizani", shared his thoughts on not receiving an invitation to the Azerbaijani national team.
Idman.biz reports that the 30-year-old player stated in an interview with Telegraf that he agrees with the position of the national team's head coach, Fernando Santos.
According to him, the Portuguese specialist is right: "Santos is indeed right. Head coach Ufuk Kahraman played me on the right and left of midfield, on the left of defense, and in the center of attack at Boluspor. However, when I was previously at Keshla (now Shamakhi - ed.), head coach Tarlan Ahmadov only gave me a chance on the right and left of midfield. Yalcin Kosukavak, the head coach who brought me to Boluspor, knew that I played in every position when he returned to the team in February and started playing me on the right side of the defense."
Iskandarli also added that he expects an invitation from the national team because he plays regularly in his new team: "I am familiar with Santos' statement that players who do not get a chance in their clubs will not be invited to the national team. Therefore, I have set a goal for myself to get an invitation to the national team again by playing regularly in my club. I am currently dealing with the solution to my foreign passport problem. I hope that I will be called up to the national team for the matches of the 2026 World Cup qualifying round, which will start in September."
It should be noted that Vusal Iskandarli last wore the uniform of the Azerbaijani national team on June 7 last year in a friendly match against Albania. He appeared in the 59th minute of the match, which the national team lost with a score of 1:3. The 30-year-old football player signed a 1+1 year contract with the Albanian club "Partizani" this summer. He played his first official match for his new club in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League at home against the Estonian club "Kalyu". The experienced player, who could not play in the away match due to a visa problem, was on the field for 90 minutes in the return match. The main time of the first match ended in a 1:1 draw, and the away match ended in a 0:0 draw. In extra time, Iskandarli's team conceded a goal and stopped fighting in the European Cups.
