"It's too early to say who will be the champion. "Qarabagh" has stopped fighting in the Champions League and will now focus all its attention on the national championship and the cup."
This was stated by former "Qarabagh" midfielder Vugar Mustafayev in an interview with futbolinfo.az.
We present that interview.
– "Qarabagh" lost to "Newcastle" 2:3 in the return match of the Champions League play-off stage. How would you comment on the game displayed by your former team? What was missing to return from England with a draw?
– First of all, I would like to thank and congratulate everyone in the "Qarabagh" club who worked hard to represent Azerbaijan properly in such a big tournament as the Champions League and to give the fans that excitement. As for the game, "Newcastle" had already decided the fate of the pair in the match in Baku. Despite the two goals conceded at the beginning of the return match, our team did not break down, did not give up. I liked this stance of "Qarabagh". Compared to the game in Baku, the team was more confident in the return match. In general, "Qarabagh" fought well and created difficulties for the opponent. I think that "Newcastle" was superior both individually and in terms of quality and speed.
– Whose game did you like the most in the "Qarabagh" squad in the return match against "Newcastle"?
– I would say Elvin Jafarguliyev. I mentioned his name because of his active participation in building attacks, his movements, and his attempts to keep the team's rhythm high.
– How would you comment on "Qarabagh"'s overall performance in the Champions League this season?
– As Gurban Gurbanov said, they gained a lot of experience. Especially the recent games will cause the team to grow even more.
– Do you expect "Qarabagh" to achieve even better success in the coming years?
– As I said, a lot of experience was gained this season. In my opinion, better results and success will be achieved in the coming years.
– Will "Qarabagh", which has stopped fighting in the Champions League, be able to eliminate "Sabah"'s advantage in the Azerbaijan Premier League? Who do you think will finish the season as champion?
– It's too early to say who will be the champion. "Qarabagh" has stopped fighting in the Champions League and will now focus all its attention on the national championship and the cup. "Sabah" is also quite ambitious for the championship this season, and the game and results they have shown prove this. A really good team has been formed. In this round, "Qarabagh" will face "Sabah", and the result will be important for both teams. The last round of the championship will be decisive and tense for both "Qarabagh", "Sabah", and our other clubs.
– Nariman Akhundzade recently moved to a US club. Which other "Qarabagh" players do you think will be transferred to foreign clubs soon?
– Nariman is a talented football player, I wish him success. I hope that everything will be fine for him in America and that he will improve his potential even more. The recent criticism and pressure affected Nariman's performance. I hope he will be away from this criticism and pressure there. I assume that after a successful season in the Champions League, many "Qarabagh" players have or will have offers. But it is difficult for me to say exactly who will leave.
