"This season is over for "Neftchi". I don't believe they will qualify for the European cups. Maybe next season will be better".
These words were said by veteran footballer Vidadi Rzayev.
The former coach of "Kapaz" stated that after losing 0:1 to "Turan Tovuz" in the 23rd round of the Misli Premier League, the chances of the "white-blacks" to qualify for European cups are almost over.
"After Yuri Vernidub took over the team, there were successful results at first. They "broke" after the controversial penalty episode in the game against "Shamakhi". Vernidub could have done more. "Neftchi" could have risen. But the head coach didn't have much time to build the team and choose players. In general, "Neftchi"'s situation is unsuccessful. Every coach who comes says that everything will be fine, we will fix it, we will achieve the desired result. This is somewhat similar to what Gianni de Biasi said when he came to the national team. He also said that there is potential in Azerbaijan, there will be good results. But after losing and losing, he said give me my money and I'll go back to my country. Yuri Vernidub seems to be working on the same principles," he said in a statement to futbolinfo.az.
V.Rzayev recalled the past days:
"The fans want the best. But no one knows about the processes that take place inside the club. The late Ruslan Abdullayev asked me a question when I was 18 years old and playing for "Neftchi". He asked how football looks from the stands? I said great. Then he said, how about when you go down step by step? I said it's good, but it looked better from above. He said that all the dirt comes out when you get inside the team. Now the fans want the team to perform well, but no one knows what is happening inside the club. Only the management knows it".
The former midfielder wants the coach to be given time:
"A head coach needs to be given at least 3-4 years. It's like conquering Mars - will it work or not. For example, it worked in "Garabagh". Gurban Gurbanov was brought in and he gave results. "Neftchi" is a flagship club, the stamp is on it and no one can take it away. The fan watches the game, and when the team loses, it affects everyone. They must compete with "Garabagh", at least fight for high places. At least they should compete for the European cups. I'm not saying that Vernidub should not be given time. But everyone wants to see "Neftchi" in the top positions. No one wants to agree with 5th-6th places. If "Neftchi" is not doing this today, this is already a problem of our overall football. No one will wait for Vernidub for a long time to do something next year. He came and accepted the team, this burden is now on him. I don't know how the club and fans will react to his stay. He didn't make a bad impression when he first came. But it is difficult to say how he builds relationships with the players later".
