Yusif Nabiyev is still without a club after his contract was terminated in February following a dispute with Adil Shukurov, the head coach of "Sabail," a candidate for champion in the First League.
Idman.Biz reports that the 29-year-old player, who has been wearing the "sailors" uniform since 2023 and did not take off the captain's armband even though his team left the elite last summer, answered the questions of the futbolinfo.az website.
– You have been away from the green fields for two months. Do you currently have any offers or clubs you are in negotiations with?
– I am waiting for the end of the season. According to the rules, I cannot play in any team now. Therefore, I have to wait for the new championship.
– Have you completely distanced yourself from football? How does not playing during this time affect you?
– I have not distanced myself, I am training, I am trying to keep myself in shape. Of course, my current situation affects me badly. No matter how much I train, I have to stay out of the game until the end of the season.
– Have you considered the option of going to another country?
– Actually, I had considered this idea with my manager. But it was too late when I became clubless. It is not so easy to find a team in another country.
– Last summer, when "Sabail" left the Premier League, unlike many players, you did not leave the team. After the situation you fell into, did you regret it?
– I had an offer, but I did not leave my team in a bad situation. I don't regret it. This is also an experience for me for the future. The past is in the past, I am looking to the future. I have hope, I am working on myself, I am training. If a chance arises, I will prove myself by making the most of it.
– Are you still upset with Adil Shukurov, who caused you to leave the team?
– No, it's over. Such things can happen to us in life.

– There is no real one. In this matter, I chose to wait for the end of the season. It is better to wait than to go to an unnecessary place.
– What will you prioritize when choosing a team?
– I don't have the luxury of choice in my current situation, I will start from somewhere, God willing. I am a person who tells and knows the reality. I honestly don't know where it will be, which league it will be.
– So it doesn't have to be strictly Premier League?
– If there is a coach who believes in me and wants to support me, of course I want to be in the Premier League. If not, I will consider a foreign country. Let the time come, let's see how it goes, then I will decide.
– Do you follow your brother Farid Nabiyev's games in "Kapaz"?
– I follow, he has come to his senses in recent times, he is good, but he can be better. His talent allows him to say this. I am not saying this because he is my brother, we are always talking. I believe in him very much, I believe that he will reach where he wants to.
– In your opinion, is Farid a stronger football player, or you? In general, in what aspects do you consider yourself superior to him, and in what aspects do you think you need to learn from him?
– My brother is more talented than me. I don't see myself superior to Farid in terms of football. Yes, I may be superior in terms of experience, which is related to age and experiences. Our positions are also different: I am a defender, Farid is an attacking football player.
