UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin commented on national league matches held abroad.
According to İdman.biz, today the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has exceptionally allowed a La Liga and Serie A match to be held outside of Spain and Italy. This means that Villarreal and Barcelona could play in Miami, USA, and Milan and Como in Perth, Australia.
"League matches should be played on home soil. Any other decision would deprive loyal fans who want to attend matches of their rights and distort the competition. Our consultations confirmed the scale of these concerns.
While it is regrettable that these matches (abroad) have been allowed to be played, the decision is exceptional and should not be taken as a precedent.
Our goal is clear: to protect the integrity of national leagues and ensure that football remains in its own environment," Čeferin said.
