Former head coach of Kazan "Rubin", Kurban Berdyev, has disappeared.
Lent.az, citing Russian media, reports that the specialist who leads the Azerbaijani club "Turan Tovuz" has gone to Russia and does not answer calls from the club's management.
"A meeting between the club's management and the head coach was supposed to take place in early June, but no calls were received from Berdyev. Officials tried to contact the 72-year-old specialist, but to no avail," the source said.
Berdyev has been coaching "Turan Tovuz" since 2024. Prior to that, the coach worked at Makhachkala "Dynamo". The specialist achieved great success while working at Kazan "Rubin". Under his leadership, the club became the Russian champion twice and won the Russian Cup, and also defeated Barcelona at the Camp Nou in the Champions League.
The "Turan Tovuz" football club has issued a statement regarding the matter.
According to Lent.az, the statement said that the team's head coach Kurban Berdyev is currently in Azerbaijan:
"Despite the end of the season, our head coach Kurban Berdyev has not left our country and is constantly exchanging ideas with the club's management in order to implement the preparation plans for the next season and form a stronger team. We would like to note that our contract with the head coach is still valid and the club's management is showing its full support to Kurban Berdyev in order to form a more ambitious team. We urge our fans and the football community not to trust unsubstantiated and false news that damages the club's image.
