Today, the draw ceremony for the AFC Champions League Elite tournament, the most prestigious club tournament in Asia, was held.
Idman.biz reports that Tabriz's "Tractor" club, the Iranian champion and Super Cup winner, will also participate in the tournament.
A total of 24 teams will participate in the competition this season, and they are divided into "West" and "East" zones based on geographical principles. 12 teams will compete in each zone, and the teams will compete not in groups, but in a single tournament system.
Each team will play eight matches. Based on their results, the top eight teams from each of the "West" and "East" will qualify to play in the 1/8 finals. There, the teams will face those located in their zones. Only from the 1/4 final stage will the "West" and "East" unite. The 1/4 final, semi-final and final matches will be held in Saudi Arabia on April 17-25 next year.
According to the results of the draw, "Tractor" will face "Al-Sadd" (Qatar), "Al-Shorta" (Iraq), "Al-Duhail" (Qatar) and "Al-Wahda" (UAE) at home and "Shabab Al-Ahli" (UAE), "Nasaf" (Uzbekistan), "Sharjah" (UAE) and "Al-Gharafa" (Qatar) away in the "West" zone.
The tournament will start on September 15.
The current winner of the AFC Champions League Elite tournament is Saudi Arabia's "Al-Ahli" club.
It should be noted that "Tractor", which became the Iranian champion for the first time in history last season, is the country's only representative in the AFC Champions League Elite tournament. Last season, the representative of Tabriz participated in the AFC Champions League 2 tournament and advanced to the 1/4 finals.
