Toni Polster, participant in the 1990 and 1998 World Cups, harshly criticized the San Marino national team after their 0:10 defeat to Austria in the qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup. The veteran footballer gave a statement to the "Kronen Zeitung" publication regarding this:
"This is not a national team, but a team of pizzaiolos (pizza chefs). They have no place in the international arena. There was no such weak team in my time. Arnautović is now the top scorer? Congratulations, I wish him success."
It should be noted that before this match, Polster was the all-time top scorer for the Austrian national team. Marko Arnautović, who scored 4 goals against San Marino, now surpasses him and leads the list.
The San Marino national team is currently in last place, 210th, in the FIFA ranking.
