Interview with Shaquille Sno, who started wearing the uniform of "Karvan-Yevlax" this season, to Sportal.az
- "Karvan-Yevlax" managed to win in the last round against "Kapaz". In the first round, you drew with "Gabala". Did you expect such performance?
- I think we started very well and to be honest, it's not a surprise for me to get four points from the first two matches. I believe in the quality of our team. We have a strong group of good players and most importantly, we fight for each other on the field. If we continue to work hard and unite, I believe we can achieve a lot this season.
- Today you will face "Qarabagh". This team dominates in Azerbaijan. Does the game against them seem dangerous to you?
- I don't think the game against "Qarabagh" is dangerous for us. Of course, "Qarabagh" is a big team. But everything is possible in football. Every match starts 0:0. Personally, I enjoy such games against big rivals.
- In general, what result can "Karvan" show in the league, is it realistic for you to join the fight for European cups?
- As I said, I believe that the team has high quality. The season is still very new. But if we continue to play with this spirit, to fight as one, I think we can surprise many. Step by step, we will see where this takes us. The most important thing is consistency.
- How did the transfer to "Karvan" happen? Did you have information about this team or the Azerbaijan Premier League, Azerbaijani football?
- One of the agents contacted me and informed me about this opportunity. I already had some information about the Azerbaijan league. Because some of my friends have played here before. They told me positive things about the country, people and football. My main goal is simple: to play as much as possible, to help the team with my qualities and to grow as a football player. Of course, it would be good to take a high place in the league.
- You currently live in Yevlakh. How is life there for you? I guess people know you, are interested in you...
- No, I live with my family in Mingachevir. Life here is very quiet, very different from Amsterdam where I grew up. But I feel good here. In Mingachevir, people treat children very well, they are very friendly, and in general, people are kind and helpful. My daughter enjoys it very much. We spend a lot of time outside together. Sometimes people recognize me, want to take pictures with me, or stop me and talk.
- "Karvan" hosts home games in Yevlakh. You play in Shamakhi because the stadium's grass cover is not ready. Are you looking forward to your home games in Yevlakh?
- Yes, definitely. I am looking forward to playing at our own stadium in Yevlakh. I have heard that "Karvan" has the best fans in Azerbaijan, so I can't wait to experience this atmosphere. It is always a good feeling to see fans behind you. Playing at home means giving them moments to enjoy.
- Who are your friends or acquaintances among the football players who have played in Azerbaijan before?
- Yes, I have friends who have played in this league before. They told me good things about Azerbaijani football and life, which helped me to have a clear idea before coming here. I have moved to several countries, and when you go to a new country, it is always easier if you already have some information and know people who have had a positive experience before you.
Also, some of my former teammates from "Telstar" (Netherlands) and "Botoşani" (Romania) are currently playing in "Shamakhi". I was surprised when I met them on the field during a friendly match. Because it is always interesting and pleasant to see familiar faces when you start playing in a new league.
- When I hear the last name Sno, Evander Sno immediately comes to mind. He once played for "Ajax" and "Celtic". Are you related to him?
- Yes, he is my relative. But to be honest, we don't have a close relationship with him. I have a very big family. Therefore, I do not maintain close contact with everyone. But of course, I am aware of his career.
- You have already played two games in the Azerbaijan Premier League. What are your thoughts on the level of the championship?
- I think the league is at a very good level. You can see that the teams are well organized, the games are tense, and if you don't fully focus your attention, every opponent can create problems. Everyone can beat each other.
