Sergio Ramos was ready to take an unprecedented step to return to Sevilla. Sport24.az, citing Marca, reports that the 39-year-old defender agreed to play for free until the end of the season to help his native club retain its place in La Liga.
According to the source, the idea arose after the sports director of the Andalusian club admitted at a press conference that they did not have the financial means to make new transfers. After that, the player's brother and agent, Rene Ramos, contacted club president Jose Maria del Nido.
The player's entourage brought to the attention of the other side that Ramos was ready to play for free. However, no agreement was reached at the leadership level. The president of "Sevilla" explained his refusal with concerns about his future in the club:
"I cannot transfer you, because in three months you can become the owner of "Sevilla" and fire me."
It should be noted that after the negotiations failed, Ramos is considering the option of continuing his career at Marseille.
