The head coach of the Ukrainian national team, Serhiy Rebrov, spoke on MEGOGO about the results of the II round match against Azerbaijan in Baku as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifying stage.
İdman.biz reports that the match in Baku ended in a 1:1 draw.
Rebrov noted that his team failed to create enough scoring chances: "Unfortunately, we only started loading the opponent's penalty area in the last 15 minutes. We should have done it sooner. The pitch was heavy, and Azerbaijan played completely differently compared to the match against Iceland - compactly, without leaving the zones."
The coach also commented on the VAR episodes: "The penalty against us, of course, spoiled the game. But if a penalty had been awarded in the third minute, it is unlikely that anything would have changed. The referee made his decision, I cannot discuss it."
The coach emphasized that he does not consider the number of attackers to be fundamental: "What is important is what functions the players perform. Today we had three attacking-minded players, but they were not always in the right place."
