"I know Saša Ilić very well. He is my friend."
Idman.biz reports that this was stated by Serbian defender Vojislav Stankovic in his statement to Futbolxeber.az.
The experienced defender, who played in Azerbaijan for many years, commented on the appointment of his compatriot as the head coach of "Sumgayit": "We played together with Ilić in "Partizan" for many years. Now he will continue his career as a coach in "Sumgayit." As soon as he received an offer from this club, he called me. We talked, and I told him that "Sumgayit" is a good club. It always strives for good results and displays attractive football. It would be great if he accepted the offer."
Stankovic emphasized that if Ilić forms the team he wants, "Sumgayit" can fight for high places: "Ilić is a young, promising coach. I told him that it would be good if he accepted the offer. In the end, he went to "Sumgayit." I hope that his work there will be successful. True, I am not closely acquainted with the conditions. But I believe that Ilić will succeed in "Sumgayit." He loves attractive football. The teams he leads usually control the ball more, and prefer a lot of passes. If he attracts the players he wants, he will build a good, combative team and fight for high places."
It should be noted that Vojislav Stankovic played in Azerbaijan from 2015-2023. Together with "Inter" (now "Shamakhi"), he won the silver medal of the national championship. Later, he took second place twice and third place once with "Gabala," and played in the Europa League group. Stankovic became the champion of Azerbaijan with "Neftchi."
