French central defender Samuel Umtiti has announced the end of his career at the age of 31.
Idman.biz reports that the 2018 World Cup winner, who moved to Lille in 2023, has not appeared on the field since January 2024 due to injuries.
Umtiti wrote on his social media account: "After an eventful career with ups and downs, the time has come to say goodbye... I did everything with passion and I don't regret it. I want to thank all the clubs, presidents, coaches and players I was able to play with. And thank you to all the fans who supported me."
The football player played 31 games and scored 4 goals for the French national team, with whom he became world champion in 2018. He played for Barcelona in the Spanish championship, where he appeared in 91 matches, scored two goals and made one assist. At Barcelona, the defender won the La Liga championship twice, the King's Cup three times and the Super Cup twice. Umtiti has also played for Lyon and Lecce.
During his career, the graduate of Lyon missed 208 games due to injury.
