An interview with Sabah's Serbian defender Boyan Letic for Futbolinfo.az
– What are your thoughts on the two games you played against Celje (2:3, 3:3) in the Europa League? What prevented Sabah from advancing to the next round?
– I am not surprised that Celje reached the 1/4 finals of the Conference League last season, they are a very good team. It is a collective with a system, you know what each player has to do on the field and this system works well for them. The head coach has been leading the team for 2-3 years. I say this precisely because I spoke with Kvesic and Nieto – I played with one in the national team, and with the other in a team in Spain. After each game – whether it's a win or not – there is a 24-hour period: joy-happiness, euphoria or sadness-depression, anger. But after 24 hours, we leave all this behind, we think and move on. Because we are professionals. Remember, people remember you for your last games, everything good is forgotten very quickly.
– We didn't see you in the starting lineup in either game. How would you explain this?
– The head coach decides who should be in the starting lineup. Each of us wanted to overcome the Celje barrier. Perhaps the goal we conceded in the last minute of the first game was decisive, but it is difficult to say. It is necessary to say it as it is: if the opponent is better, you need to shake their hand and congratulate them. Now we have to hold our heads high. We have our next game ahead. We must prepare as much as we can and do everything to advance in the Conference League.
– You will face Petrocub in the Conference League. How do you assess the chances? Can we consider Sabah the favorite in this pairing?
– It is difficult to say anything for sure, because we do not know Petrocub well enough. As far as I know, they played in the main stage of the Conference League last year and are undoubtedly a good team. I always consider the chances to be 50/50. We must believe in ourselves – we have a quality team and we must focus on doing what we know, not on who the opponent is. I believe that we will achieve a positive result.
– What is your initial impression of the new head coach Valdas Dambrauskas? Do you think his activities in Sabah will be successful?
– Our new head coach has brought new energy to the team during this month. I like his approach to football, his ideas, his vision and direction. Of course, we still need time to fully grasp everything. But I believe that we will be successful with him.
– What are your thoughts on the new transfers? Have they been able to add extra strength to your team?
– I like the transfers. I think they will be very useful to us. The main reason is that they brought a new energy to the team that we were missing.
