An interview with "Sabah"'s Croatian midfielder Ivan Lepinica for futbolinfo.az
- You won both matches against "Petrocub" in the Conference League (2:0, 4:1). Did you expect to eliminate the opponent so easily?
- We prepared very well for both games against "Petrocub". In the first match, we had some difficulty converting scoring opportunities, but in the end, we achieved a very good result for the return match at home. And in Baku, we finished the job.
- How would you comment on Coy-Lens Mickels' performance, who scored 3 goals in the return match? It seems that Valdas Dambrauskas' arrival has benefited him the most…
- It was magnificent, what can I say?! He scored three goals and also made an assist – it was a complete MVP (most valuable player) performance.
- The next opponent in the Conference League will be "Levski". How do you assess the chances?
- We have two difficult games ahead of us, so we need to prepare well. But I think we will have a chance to advance to the next stage.
- "Sabah", including the games with "Celje", has proven to be one of the respectable teams in all the matches it has played in the European Cups this season. Does "Sabah"'s potential allow it to do more, to show a better game?
- Of course, it allows. I think we are on the right track. The first games of the season are always difficult, the team needs time to develop and get better. I think that in each subsequent meeting we will perform stronger and better.
- After Valdas Dambrauskas' arrival, what is the change you like the most in training, in the team's game plan, or in the attitude towards the players?
- The head coach wants us to play beautiful football, to control the ball. He wants the team to reach the best possible level. I like his approach, and I think we players can benefit a lot from Dambrauskas' experience in the future.
- The transfers made by other clubs, like "Sabah", and their serious approach to the championship give reason to say that the new season will be more competitive. Do you agree with this opinion? What are your expectations for the new Premier League season?
- Every season is very competitive, and I think the league will grow even more every year. Yes, the upcoming season will also be very competitive. But we need to focus on our game and how we want to play. Our goals are always high, and as always, we will do our best this season.
