"As I mentioned, something is missing to win every game. We have good football players".
This was stated by Rustam Ahmadzadeh, a football player of the Azerbaijani national team and "Sumgayit", in an interview with sport24.az.
We present that interview.
- The national team is expecting two games within the framework of the "FIFA Series - 2026" tournament. We would like to know your thoughts on these matches.
- Everyone - fans, coaches, and those around us - expects victory from us. We also want it from ourselves. We are thinking of winning both matches with a spectacular game and restoring the people's faith in the national team. These two matches are a great chance for us.
- What is the atmosphere like in the national team camp?
- There is a super atmosphere in the camp. A high atmosphere has been formed in the national team with the arrival of Aykhan Abbasov. Football players invited to the country's main team come to the camp with great enthusiasm. Everyone is happy. We train with great desire and believe that our team will be successful. Being invited to the national team is a great honor for any football player. We believe that we will make our people happy with victory in both upcoming matches.
- Let's talk a little about "Sumgayit". The team you wear the uniform of has fallen into a "black streak" after the winter break. It's been several games since you longed for victory...
- Frankly, I don't have an answer to this question. More precisely, I have difficulty finding an answer. There are certain small details that, when combined, cause big problems. Something is always missing to win. Our weak appearance after the winter disappoints us all. Before the break, everything worked out for us. There was both a game and a result. I am also interested in why we got into this situation...
- What do you think is missing for the team to get out of the "black streak"?
- As I mentioned, something is missing to win every game. We have good football players. Desire and determination are also in place. The management is also doing its best to achieve successful results. Unfortunately, something always goes wrong, something doesn't work out. When there are 3-4 consecutive failures, pressure is also created on the team, which somehow has its say. Sometimes luck also turns its back on us. For example, in the match with "Karvan-Yevlax", I couldn't turn the penalty into a goal. If I had been accurate, the fate of the game would have been decided.
- How true is it to complain about luck in a match with the Premier League's clear outsider? Maybe "Sumgayit" players lack character? There is no leading football player who takes responsibility in difficult moments and leads the team...
- Maybe... You know that most of the football players joined this team last summer. It takes some time to adapt. Maybe that's why there is no football player among us who can take the lead.
- Can the head coach be blamed for the team's failure?
- As I emphasized, every little detail has an impact.
