Portugal national team forward and captain Cristiano Ronaldo has clarified the reasons for not attending the funeral of his national teammate Diogo Jota.
According to Idman.Biz, Jota and his brother Andre Silva died in a car accident in Spain on July 3, 2025.
"There are two reasons. First, I have never been to a cemetery since my father's death (since 2005). Second, wherever I go, everything turns into a circus. All the attention would be on me, and I didn't want that.
People criticize me, but I'm glad I made this decision. You don't have to be in the public eye to be praised. I'm planning certain things, I'm thinking about his family. You don't have to be in front of cameras for people to see what I'm doing. I do everything behind the scenes," Ronaldo said in an interview with journalist Piers Morgan.
