According to Lent.az, citing foreign media, the story that has now emerged reveals how this ideal scenario was disrupted at the last moment.
It all started in January when Messi unexpectedly called Xavi and announced his decision to return. He was ready for a new role, took his age into account, and longed to feel part of "Barcelona" again. Xavi discussed the details with him every ten to fifteen days, and they agreed on everything, down to his position on the field.
In February, Messi asked Xavi to talk to his father to speed up the process. Laporta was very happy: the chance to bring back the legend seemed like the perfect way to heal the wounds of 2021. In April, sporting director Matteu Alemany announced that La Liga had given its initial consent. A two-year contract was prepared with minimal changes. Everything was heading towards an announcement in June.
But a few days later, Jorge Messi called back and said: "They tell me it's not possible. La Liga is not giving the final approval."
Overnight, the project stopped. Guarantees disappeared. "Barça" changed its position, and Leo, tired of waiting and fearing a repeat of 2021, chose stability - an offer from "Inter Miami."
