The "Gabala" club still owes 110,000 AZN to the Professional Football League (PFL) from the 2023/2024 season.
Idman.biz reports with reference to Telegraf.az that Sabuhi Safiyarlı, the sports director of the "red-blacks", announced this on the "OffTop" program broadcast on Public TV.
He stated that the debt has not yet been cleared: "Before being relegated from the Premier League to the First League, we owed 110,000 AZN to the PFL. AFFA gave us 700,000 AZN in support. We asked the PFL so much last year that since you are not giving us money, at least write off this 110,000. But they didn't write it off."
The club official explained that the debt arose from fines and foreign player fees: "They didn't agree to postpone it either, we somehow persuaded them. Maybe my friends will be offended by me, but I have to explain. 50,000 AZN of the 110,000 AZN was due to the 13th foreign player registration. In the last games of the 2023/2024 season, our young players started to debut. We also put the names of the young people in the reserve team on the application form so that they could feel the atmosphere. We are already being relegated from the Premier League, at least let them gain experience. At that time, one of the young people - Elnur Ibrahimov, although a Russian citizen, we did not realize it. The team manager saw the name Elnur and thought he was local like the others on the list and said "okay". That football player was on the bench for one game. Currently, that football player is not even in our team, I think he has quit football. As a result of such a mistake, we suffered a great loss."
Safiyarlı emphasized that even though they appealed to the PFL due to the problem that occurred, they were not given any concessions: "Since we had 12 foreign players, the PFL fined us 50,000 AZN for registering him as the 13th. True, it is our mistake, but it happened in this way. We said, you also know that it was accidental. We applied that if you don't waive the 110,000, at least waive the 50,000. Let's even give an explanation that there was such a mistake. Even if someone objects, it can be explained like this. We lost 50,000 for nothing at this time of the year. Last year, we sold 2 of our buses and spent them on the academy. On the other hand, we have to pay a fine of 50,000 AZN for something. It's a fair decision, but it could have been waived for something."
