"Nariman's move to the US championship was unexpected. He is a fairly promising football player. We knew that if he left Qarabag, he would live a legionnaire's life."
These words were said by Rahid Amirguliyev, a former football player of Qarabag, while talking about the transfer of Nariman Akhundzade, a member of the Azerbaijani national team, to the US club Columbus Crew.
He said he dreamed of seeing the 22-year-old striker in one of the European clubs.
"I wanted him to go to Europe and play in one of the leading championships. Because he has potential. I believe that Nariman will be able to prove himself in the US club as well. There has been pressure on him lately. For this reason, he could not show the game he wanted in Qarabag. Therefore, playing abroad may be beneficial for him. Head coach Gurban Gurbanov also expressed his opinion on this matter. I don't believe anyone knows Nariman better than Gurban. In any case, Nariman's departure is a big loss for Qarabag," he said in a statement to AZERTAC.
The veteran football player emphasized that MLS is a difficult championship: "In this regard, it will not be easy for Nariman to establish himself there. The important thing in the first stage is to be able to adapt to the team. I am sure that in the future he will show his game in better clubs."
R. Amirguliyev said that young football players who can replace Nariman Akhundzade are playing in the Qarabag academy: "There are young talents in the academy. Until now, those football players have been involved in the main team. I believe that Gurban Gurbanov will bring them out."
It should be noted that Nariman Akhundzade has signed a contract with the Columbus Crew club until June 2029. After receiving an international transfer certificate and visa, he will join the camp of his new team.
