UEFA and European Super League officials are planning to make significant changes to the Champions League format starting in 2027.
Idman.biz reports, citing the Spanish publication "COPE", that according to the new model, 36 teams will participate in the tournament, but they will be divided into two groups.
Each club will play eight matches – four at home and four away, and only against opponents in their own group.
The first group will include 18 clubs with the highest UEFA ranking, while the remaining 18 teams will be in the second group. The top eight teams from the first group will directly advance to the 1/8 finals, while the others will compete in additional stages.
In addition, UEFA is considering discontinuing traditional TV broadcasting and launching its own streaming platform similar to "Netflix". This will be a more accessible model for fans and will increase club revenue.
The project is currently in the discussion phase, and a final decision will be made in the coming months.
