Qurban Qurbanov, the head coach of "Qarabagh," attracted attention with his interesting statement after the 23rd round match of the Azerbaijan Premier League, where they defeated "Araz-Nakhchivan" with a score of 6:0.
The 54-year-old specialist explained that the reason for his delay to the press conference was meeting Gülnaz muallim, his mathematics teacher from high school, after 30 years.

- What kind of student was Qurban Qurbanov?
- He was a very good, disciplined, worthy, composed, modest, responsible, and intelligent student. He was a beloved student of the school, and I was his beloved teacher. Qurban Qurbanov first studied at the secondary school No. 5 in the village of Ashaghi Tala. Since that school was incomplete (8 years at that time, now 9 years - ed.), he completed his education at the full secondary school No. 3. I taught him mathematics - algebra and geometry - in the IX and X grades (now X and XI grades).
- What was his level of interest in such difficult subjects?
- Qurban loved mathematics. However, not everyone can learn this subject. But he had excellent geometric knowledge. At the same time, he also went to competitions as a football player. Once I asked him to make a geometric figure. It was a rainy day, but he brought the pyramid he had made in a package, presented it to me, and went to the competition. That's how disciplined a student Qurban was.
- How did it happen that Qurban Qurbanov became a favorite student for you, even though you were only together for two years?
- Qurban was a distinguished student among his classmates and school students in the upper grades. He stood out with his discipline and modesty, just like now. He went to all the competitions. But there was not a single lesson that he would skip and not come and sit in front of me.
- How was your meeting with Qurban Qurbanov after many years?
- We later moved to Baku with our family and currently live in the capital. I myself watched many of "Qarabagh's" games from the stadium. But during this time we never met Qurban. On March 8, we met by chance after many years. We love Qurban as a family. He also knew that his teacher was in the stadium. When the news reached him, we met after the game. Although he had to go to the press conference. For this reason, our meeting was rushed and we could not take a picture together. Although I have been to "Qarabagh's" games many times before, I did not tell him about it. This time, when he found out, he decided to delay the press conference and meet me.
- What is the level of interest in football in your family?
- My son used to be a football player, playing under the leadership of Shaban Shirdanov, Qurban Qurbanov's first coach. He even played with Qurban during the holidays. True, his football-related dreams remained in his heart, but we have a love for football as fans. Once we came to Qurban Qurbanov's farewell match as a football player. We also brought a large bouquet of flowers with us. I sent the bouquet to be delivered to him. I have been to many of his games myself, but I have not told him that I am in the stadium. I have been watching his games in stadiums for years. I also know his brothers Musa and Maarif very well. We love Qurban very much and are proud of him.
