"Qarabag" will face North Macedonia's "Shkendija" club in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. Sport24.az reports that the Aghdam representative has shared information about its opponent:
"The team representing the city of Tetovo was founded in 1979. After a period of inactivity, the club was restored in 1992. "Shkendija", starting its performances in the country's championships from the lower leagues, gradually advanced and achieved its first victory in the 2010/11 season. The Tetovo team, which celebrated its first championship at that time, also won gold medals in the 2017/18, 2018/19, 2020/21 and 2024/25 seasons. The five-time national champion also has 4 silver medals.
"Shkendija", which won the national cup in 2016 and 2018, lost in the final three times. In 2011, the club won the only Super Cup in its history.
The club's biggest success in European cups, where it debuted in 2011, is participation in the play-off stage. "Shkendija" stopped one step away from the group stage of the Europa League in the 2016/17, 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons. In the current season, "Shkendija" secured a place in the main stage of one of the European cups for the first time in its history.
Having defeated Wales representative TNS (0:0, 2:1, in extra time) and then Romania's FCSB (1:0, 2:1), the North Macedonians advanced to the third qualifying round of the Champions League. Zakariya Ramazani, who played in our team in 2008-09, moved from our club to "Shkendija" 16 years ago. Nderim Nedzipi, who played for the Aghdam club in 2011-12, also went to "Shkendija" from "Qarabag".
It should be reminded that the first game of the Azerbaijani champion with the North Macedonians will be on August 5 away.
